One fine morning a little bear was busy playing with his other friends. Suddenly, the bear’s eyes fell on a moving creature that looked just like the grapes.
“Friends, come here. Look at the moving grapes!” Everyone got surprised. Monkey jumped to the king of the forest and told the story of the moving grapes. The lion felt that he was wasting his time by telling stories, but when the monkey insisted, the lion walked with him so that he too could see the grapes walking. The lion saw the grapes on the move.
“Oh you fool! These are not grapes but ants. Ants look like grapes.” the lion said. Everyone came closer to see the ants.
“These are actually a special kind of ‘worker ants’ to which the rest of ants feed a sufficient amount of flower sap, plant matter, and the sweet drop from some insects, which swells their bellies to the size of grape seeds. Inside the colony, they are kept in special boxes for difficult times.” the lion told the bear.
“What else do you know about them?” This time the giraffe asked, and the lion thought for a while, and then said: “These ants are found within different subfamilies of ants. Some of these species are also eaten, the colony is dug to a depth of 2 to 3 meters and these ants are extracted and used as food. They are very sweet in taste.”
“Oh wow you have given us wonderful information about them.” The little elephant said.
Dear kids! It is for your information that such grape-like ants are actually found in North America, Africa, Australia, New Mexico and Arizona.
