Rose Plant’s Regret

February 2025

Once there were lots of plants in a garden. There was a rose plant too that was very beautiful. While it had a lot of beauty, it was very arrogant, proud and ill-tempered. It never allowed anyone to come closer. Arslan and his friends were used to come and play in the garden. One day they gathered around the plant as many beautiful roses were blooming on it. Arslan wanted to touch the roses but the rose plant attacked on his hand with its thorns. He started crying with pain. It took several days when he got well. After that Arslan and his friends never went closer to the rose plant. The rose plant felt proud that everyone was scared of it.

After some months the gardener fell ill. He couldn’t come to garden for many days. When Arslan and his friends came in the garden, they saw that the plants were thirsty. They gave water to all plants except the rose plant. They did not want to go closer to it. “I don’t need their water.” The rose plant thought. Five days passed, the gardener didn’t come. The rose plant got very thirsty. All other plants were greenish and healthy because the children were giving them water every day. “I wish these children would give me some water.” the rose plant was feeling weak and sad. But no one gave it a single drop of water. The rose plant was about to die because of thirst. On the sixth day, the gardener arrived. “Now finally I will get some water.” The rose plant became relaxed to see him back. When the gardener gave it water, the rose plant felt ashamed because it often attacked and injured him with its thorns. But the gardener still loved it. “If he leaves me alone and does not take care of me, I will die.” The rose plant looked at him with grateful eyes. “I will change myself because I have learnt the lesson that if I will tease others, they will leave me alone.’’ The rose plant thought this, and smiled in satisfaction.
