The Magic in New Beginnings!

January 2025

Dear Kids, Assalam-o-Alaikum and Happy New Year!
As we step into the new year with hearts full of hope and minds eager to explore, the January issue of Hilal for Kids welcomes you to a world of discovery, creativity, and responsibility. You must obviously be excited and curiously be ready for embracing the new year. It’s not just a new start; it’s an opening to a year of 12 months where various opportunities wait for us, giving us enough time to reflect, set goals, dream of a brighter future, and do our best for the glory and prosperity of our beloved homeland, Pakistan. Our resolution for the new year must be to study more, work harder, stay stronger and stand solider against any odds coming our way towards scaling heights, achieving goals and cherishing accomplishments. Indeed, there’s a magic in new beginnings; let’s get into its captivating charisma and charm. Why not start this year with the magical world of mathematics, which is often called the language of the universe? Math is a subject which many of us may not eagerly like to study much, but in today’s world of scientific knowledge, technological advancement, info-tech blowout, and social media flooding, we find mathematics’ involvement as a key, crucial and strategical. From the symmetry of snowflakes to the mystery of black holes, it’s only mathematics that reveals the secrets of nature and helps us to make sense of the cosmos. An article here tells how the numbers you study in school are the same tools which the scientists use to unlock mysteries of the universe. Another gem of this month’s issue is our feature on the extraordinary ‘Banu Musa Brothers’ – the famous Muslim Arab scientists who actually laid the groundwork for Europe’s industrial revolution. These trailblazing scientists from the Golden Age of Islam were far ahead of their time as they crafted over 100 inventions that founded the modern science and engineering. The story of three brothers is not just about their extraordinary brilliance but also a reminder of the rich legacy of innovation and curiosity that today’s cultures dearly hold. I’m sure the feature articles, part of our series on Muslim scientists, are helping you ignite your imagination and inspire your minds.

Dear Friends!
While giving a spur to our thirst for the modern-day knowledge, we must not miss addressing the pressing global issues like pollution, environmental degradation, global warming, or menaces like drug abuse, etc. Here, we have discussed a new kind of pollution – space debris. You know, abandoned satellites and other space junk are cluttering the earth’s orbit, which are posing risks to countries’ active missions and future exploration endeavors. It’s a stark reminder of how our actions, even beyond the atmosphere, impact the environment. As guardians of this planet, you have the power to make small changes that contribute to a larger positive impact, like conserving energy, planting trees, and raising awareness among your friends. On our part, we’ll continue to educate you about the dangers of drug abuse, overpopulation and pollution. Remember, the best way to stay strong, healthy and clean is to keep ourselves committed to the regular routine of offering prayers five times a day followed by ablution and complete sanitation. Let’s use this year to cultivate our minds and hearts with other healthy activities as well. Whether it’s reading about the wonders of mathematics, learning from the lives of great scientists, or pondering the future of our planet, every moment is an opportunity to grow. The new year is a blank slate, and you, dear ones, hold the power to write your story on it. Let curiosity guide your learning, compassion shape your actions, and resilience drive your dreams. Let’s make 2025 a year of wonder, responsibility, and achievement together.

Have a happy new year, and good luck!
