From life-saving disaster relief to cutting-edge medical advancements, PAMC’s unwavering commitment continues to inspire hope and well-being across Pakistan.
The Pakistan Army Medical Corps (PAMC), established in 1947 shortly after Pakistan's independence, has evolved into a sophisticated and highly trained branch, responsible for medical operations during both peacetime and conflicts. It has long been a cornerstone of the nation’s healthcare system, committed to delivering high-quality medical services and consistently playing a pivotal role in strengthening the country's healthcare infrastructure. With a focus on both military personnel and civilian populations, the Army Medical Corps (AMC) has recently undertaken several projects aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery, improving public health, and promoting the overall well-being of communities across the nation, thereby contributing significantly to public health initiatives.
Disaster Relief Operations and Free Medical Camps
In response to natural disasters and humanitarian crises, AMC has established field hospitals and free medical camps in various underprivileged and remote locations of country; equipped with modern medical technology. COVID-19 Response
During the pandemic, the AMC played a crucial role in managing Pakistan's response to COVID-19, including the following key contributions:
• Establishment of COVID-19 Treatment Centers. Military-run hospitals were used as frontline centers for treating COVID-19 patients. These were setup across various cities in Pakistan, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta. AMC personnel were deployed in various parts of the country to assist civilian healthcare institutions.
• Telemedicine Initiatives. In an effort to bridge the gap between patients and healthcare providers and enhance the healthcare delivery, AMC had launched and leveraged telemedicine services, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This innovative approach allowed patients, especially in remote areas, to consult with medical professionals without the need for travel. By utilizing this technology, the Corps is ensuring that medical expertise is accessible, thus improving healthcare outcomes across various demographics.
Upgradation of Military Hospitals and Teaching Institutes
Recent years have seen the upgradation of military hospitals across the country, for example; modernization and expansion of existing Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) to accommodate more patients; installation of state-of-the-art equipment in several teaching institutes; development of specialized departments such as cardiology and oncology; construction of Surgical Intensive Trauma Care (ITC), Outpatient Department (OPD) and Operation Theatre (OT) complex to offer comprehensive care within military hospitals aimed at improving patient experience including better patient management systems, and enhanced outpatient services.

• Advanced Medical Training for Combat Medics. To keep its medical professionals abreast with Advanced Medical Training modules, with objective to achieve expertise on combat medicine and advanced surgical techniques; various training regimes are under process with collaboration of the UK Royal Medical Services (TCCC) and U.S. CENTCOM Global Health Team.
• Simulation-Based Training. AMC professionals are utilizing simulation centers to assist troops of sister institution of Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy in providing hands-on training to emergency response and patient care, enhancing the practical skills of healthcare providers.
Establishment of Medical Education and Research Facilities
Investing in the future of healthcare, the AMC has emphasized the importance of medical education and research. Recent collaborations with various medical institutes have been made across the country, with the aim to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals.
• Research and Development. AMC has been working on improving its research capacity for studying infectious diseases, especially in response to health crises like COVID-19 and dengue outbreaks. Being closely affiliated with National University of Medical Science (NUMS) and its allied colleges, it is also engaged in various research projects in collaboration with other national health institutions.
• Continuing Medical Education. Through regular workshops, seminars and hands-on training programs, the Army Medical Corps is committed to fostering a new generation of medical practitioners; who are well-equipped to tackle the contemporary health challenges.
PAMC stands as a pillar of medical excellence within the military framework. It combines expertise in healthcare with the demands of military service; providing critical support both on and off the battlefield contributing to national defense, and supporting global humanitarian efforts. The recent projects undertaken by the Army Medical Corps reflect a comprehensive and holistic approach to healthcare that prioritizes accessibility, innovation, emergency response, and preventive care leading to community welfare. As PAMC continues to evolve and expand its initiatives, it plays a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare in Pakistan by enhancing healthcare services and fostering community engagement.
