Sara and Ice Cream

October 2024

“Do you know that my friend came over today? As soon as Papa came home, Sara told her father.
“Oh, which friend came over?” Papa asked.

“Papa, the one with colorful wings,” Sara replied.
“Oh, so, is the butterfly your friend?” Papa asked.
“Yes, Papa, she is my friend. I like her a lot,” Sara said, blinking her eyes.
“My sweet Sara, you are too are so cute and lovely. You’re my butterfly. Aren’t you?” Papa asked.
“But I don’t have wings, Papa. Butterflies have beautiful and colorful wings,” Sara said.
Papa smiled, lifted her up, and kissed her forehead.
Sara is just three and a half years old. She talks sweetly. She is the apple of everyone’s eye, at home.
One evening when Papa came home, Sara said, “Papa, I want to eat ice cream.
“You should, but not too much. Okay, I’ll buy you ice cream. Tomorrow. Is that okay?” Papa said.
“Okay, Papa,” Sara replied, feeling reassured.
Sara was so excited that at night, before going to bed, he again asked, “Papa, where shall we go, for ice cream?”
Papa nodded in agreement, and she went to sleep contentedly.
It was Sunday morning the next day. At the breakfast table, Sara asked again, curiously: “Papa, where are we going?”
Papa lovingly replied, “We’ll go to the market to get you ice cream.”
“When are we leaving for Papa?” Sara asked.
“Very soon,” Papa replied.
Papa knew that Sara wanted ice cream no matter what. So, they both got ready and went to the market. Sara chose her favorite chocolate ice cream with great delight and enjoyed it thoroughly. But Sara wasn’t satisfied with just one. She also ate a zinger burger and chips and had a cold drink. But she again insisted on ice cream because she liked it very much. Papa told her that eating too much ice cream could make her throat sore, but when Sara insisted, Papa bought her another ice cream.
The next morning, Sara’s throat got sore and she had a slight fever too. Papa immediately took her to the doctor. After checking her throat, the doctor asked, “Did you eat other things too?” Her father told the doctor that Sara did indeed eat a hot burger in between the ice cream, and also had a cold drink.
The doctor said, “That’s why her throat is sore, and she has a mild fever.”
Then, prescribing some medicine, the doctor said, “There’s nothing to worry about. Give her this medicine twice a day. Sara will be fine soon.” Turning to Sara, the doctor advised her, “Avoid eating too much ice cream, and don’t mix it with hot food or drink.” And nodded, “Yes doctor.”
With the medicine, Sara recovered in two days. When Papa came home and saw that Sara was fine, he felt relieved.
Sara said to him, “Papa, I’m fine now.”
“Good, so shall we go, and eat ice cream again?” Papa asked playfully.
“No, Papa, Doctor Uncle said that eating too much ice cream can make my throat sore,” Sara declared.
“That’s my smart and wise Sara,” Papa said, lifting her up, and they both smiled.
