Climate change is impacting our environment. Rising temperatures, melting icecaps and extreme weather events are just some of the consequences we are facing. To overcome this issue, immediate action is needed. We must transition to renewable energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote sustainable practices, protect natural habitats and raise awareness about the importance of climate change mitigation.
Realizing this problem, the students of Azad Jammu & Kashmir took a “Green Pakistan” initiative and decided to plant trees on a large scale starting from Pakistan Resolution Day (23rd March) to Pakistan Independence Day (14th August). For this purpose, a program was held at Muzaffarabad school where parents were also invited. Speakers emphasized the need to spread awareness and take practical steps for tree plantation and natural resource conservation.
The students not only showcased their Green Pakistan spirit through drawings and debate but also started collecting trash on a daily basis from streets or public places. This is encouraging everyone to adopt eco-friendly practices. Pakistan Army in AJK is also playing pivotal role. Jawans and officers, along with APS students from all five campuses started conducting tree plantation on 23rd March all over Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The shining stars of Aftab Hussain Shaheed Army Public School planted various types of plants in the Neelum ground. They participated in an awareness walk regarding environmental care, chanted slogans of “Go Green, Pakistan!”, “Plant Trees, Save Lives” … and made resolutions for fulfilling their responsibility towards a greener future. The most appreciating gesture was by the special children from Jazba School who not only participated in the activity but also shared their views on stage. The shining stars aspire to meet a set target of planting trees till Pakistan Independence Day.
The celebration of Pakistan Day in such a memorable manner was a testament to the school children’s resolve for preserving the homeland’s natural beauty. It is the duty of all of us to play our role in protecting and nurturing the environment, so that we may carve out a path to progress.
