Care for Your Teeth

December 2023

Teeth help in digesting food. We have two sets of teeth i.e. milk teeth, and permanent teeth. Milk teeth are called primary teeth or baby teeth, which begin to appear around the age of six months. Between the age of six and 12, children's milk teeth start to naturally fall as permanent teeth begin to appear.
Types of Teeth
Teeth are of four types – incisors, canines, premolars and molars. Incisors are wide chisel shaped front teeth, which are eight in number. These teeth help us in chopping food. Canines are sharp pointed%2&48;teeth, which are four in number. These are used for ripping and tearing food. Premolars and molars are behind the canines, which are four in number. These have a flat surface and are used to grind food. The outer layer of a tooth is called enamel, which is the hardest part in our body. The most sensitive part of a tooth is pulp.
Brushing Our Teeth
It is important to keep our teeth clean and healthy. Brushing teeth regularly can make our teeth glow. Doctors advise that we should brush our teeth every morning after the breakfast and every night before going to the bed. Here are some tips as to how to brush and what are the benefits of brushing our teeth?
•    Teeth decay can be prevented by brushing twice a day.
•    While brushing the upper teeth, it is important to brush it from the gums downward.
•    For the lower teeth, brushing from the gums upward is suggested.
•    The chewing surfaces should be brushed by moving the toothbrush back and forth.
It is essential to take regular care of our teeth and be thankful to Allah for such a big blessing.
