International Ski Championships Held at Malam Jabba

Ukrainian Skiers Dominate CAS Karakoram International Alpine Ski Cup, PAF Wins Trophy for 27th National Ski Championship



Slalom Category of 4th CAS Karakoram International Alpine Ski Cup was held at the scenic Malam Jabba Ski Resort on February 7, 2020. Ukrainian skiers dominated their opponents and clinched all medals of the same category. Vitalii Aib secured the first position whereas, Nazariy Petruk and Mykola Dichuk got the silver and bronze medals, respectively. In the ladies event of the same category, Khushim Sahiba dominated the competition. After winning two consecutive golds in giant slalom races, she proved her class in the slalom category and won the gold medal. Her compatriot Umama Wali clinched the silver whereas Elvira Zakrayeva won the bronze medal.



Besides FIS races, 27th National Ski Championship was also played at the Malam Jabba Ski Resort. In the slalom event, winter Olympian Mohammad Karim from Pakistan Air Force clinched the gold medal whereas Mir Nawaz of Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts won the silver. Third on the finish line was Liaquat Ali from Pakistan Air Force. In the giant slalom category, Mohammad Karim once again outclassed his opponents and clinched the gold medal for Pakistan Air Force. Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts won the silver and bronze medal as Mir Nawaz and Zahid Abbas finished the race on second and third position, respectively. 

The prize distribution ceremony of 3rd Malam Jabba International Alpine Ski Cup, 4th CAS Karakoram International Alpine Ski Cup and 27th National Ski Championship was held at Malam Jabba Ski Resort on February 9, 2020. President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi was the chief guest at the occasion. Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Ahmer Shehzad who is also President of the Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan (WSFP) was also present at the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, the President of Pakistan appreciated the efforts of PAF and WSFP for the promotion of winter sports in the country. He also congratulated all stakeholders for successfully holding these mega events with international skiers.
Earlier, in this welcome address Air Vice Marshal Moeed Khan, Air Officer Commanding Northern Air Command said, “PAF is fully committed to not only promote skiing in Pakistan but also train budding players for participation in international winter sports events.” The chief guest also awarded medals to the winning players. PAF team was awarded the winner trophy of 27th National Ski Championship.
The results of the both events are given below:
3rd Malam Jabba International Alpine Ski Cup:
•     Men’s Giant Slalom: Nazarity Petruk (Gold), Ivan Kravchuk (Silver) and Vitalii Aib (Bronze).
•     Men's Slalom:  Vitalii Aib (Gold), M. Karim (Silver) and Nazarity Petruk (Bronze).
•     Women's Giant Slalom: Khushim Sahiba (Gold), Elvira Zakrayeva (Silver) and Umama Wali (Bronze).
•     Women's Slalom: Khushim Sahiba (Gold), Umama Wali (Silver) and Nazima Khairzad (Bronze).
4th CAS Karakoram International Alpine Ski Cup:
•     Men’s Giant Slalom: M. Karim (Gold), Nazarity Petruk (Silver) and Ivan Kravchuk (Bronze).
•     Men's Slalom: Vitalii Aib (Gold), Nazarity Petruk (Silver) and Mykola Dichuk (Bronze).
•     Women’s Giant Slalom: Khushim Sahiba (Gold), Umama Wali (Silver) and Jia Ali (Bronze).
•     Women's Slalom: Khushim Sahiba (Gold), Umama Wali (Silver) and Elvira Zakrayeva (Bronze).
27th National Ski Championship: 
•     Giant Slalom: M. Karim (Gold), Mir Nawaz (Silver) and Zahid Abbas (Bronze).
•     Slalom event: M. Karim (Gold), Mir Nawaz (Silver) and Liaqat Ali (Bronze).
Under the patronage of Pakistan Air Force, WSFP is eagerly striving for the promotion of winter sports and soft image projection of the country. Holding this event would lend a new lease of life to the tourism industry of Pakistan and open doors for the revival of international sports in the country.
