COAS Visits Germany, Azerbaijan & Turkey

Meets Top Political & Military Leadership
Visit to Germany
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa, on an official visit to Germany called on His Excellency Mr. Heiko Maas, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany on June 24, 2021. His Excellency, Mr. Markus Potzel, Special Representative for the Federal Government for Afghanistan and Pakistan was also present. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation including latest developments in the Afghan Peace Process and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed. COAS said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Germany and expressed the desire for enhanced mutually beneficial bilateral relations. The German dignitaries also acknowledged Pakistan's continuous efforts for peace and stability in the region and pledged to further enhance bilateral relations between both countries.
Later on, COAS visited Command & Staff College of Germany, where he addressed students and faculty members and shared his views on "Pakistan’s Regional and Internal Security Perspective".
During the address, COAS apprised the audience on external and internal security challenges faced by Pakistan and measures taken in regards to mitigating the threats. COAS said that the future of enduring peace and stability in the world hinges on the ability to resolve long pending issues within the region. This can only be complemented through meaningful international support to take on challenging regional issues. Focusing on COVID-19 pandemic, COAS said that Pakistan’s government, along with other state institutions, is doing its best to counter the challenges faced by Pakistan. Earlier on arrival at Command & Staff College, he was received by Major General Oliver Kohl, Commandant Bundeswehr Command & Staff College Hamburg, Germany.
During his visit, he also called on His Excellency General Eberhard Zorn, Chief of Defence German Army, on June 25, 2021.
Dr. Detlef Waechter, Director General for Security and Defence Policy at German Ministry of Defence was also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation, mutual cooperation in defence and security domain and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed. COAS said that Pakistan Army would like to expand bilateral defence cooperation to benefit from German expertise in training and technological advancements. It will have a positive impact on both the bilateral relationship of the two countries as well as regional security.
The German dignitary also commended the role of Pakistan for regional peace and security, the efforts of Pakistan Army in battling the scourge of terrorism and bringing peace and stability in the region, especially Pakistan’s role in the Afghan Peace Process. Both sides pledged to further expand defence and security cooperation at all levels.



Earlier on arrival at the Ministry of Defence, COAS laid a floral wreath on the monument and was presented a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned out military contingent.


Visit to Azerbaijan
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa on a two days’ long official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan called on His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and His Excellency Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar Oglu, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan at Baku on June 21, 2021.
During the meetings, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation including recent developments in the Afghan Peace Process and bilateral defence and security cooperation in various fields were discussed. COAS said that Pakistan and Azerbaijan share common values based on rich cultural, religious and historical affinities and have tremendous geostrategic significance/potential for mutually beneficial and enhanced cooperation at all forums. COAS also expressed Pakistan Army’s desire to further enhance bilateral military cooperation and regional partnership between the two countries.
The dignitaries thanked COAS for Pakistan’s support to Azerbaijan at all international forums.
Upon arrival at the Ministry of Defence, COAS was presented a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned out military contingent.
COAS also called on His Excellency Colonel General Eyvazov Vilayat Suleyman Oglu, Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, Chief of State Border Service (SBS) and His Excellency Colonel General Ali Naghi Oglu Naghiyev, Chief of State Security Service at Baku.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, bilateral defence and security cooperation, regional peace and stability and cooperation in energy, trade and connectivity projects between both brotherly countries were discussed. COAS said the emerging geostrategic paradigm in the region necessitates close cooperation and collective response against common challenges. He also reiterated increased mutually beneficial engagements at all levels and forums. The dignitaries also acknowledged high standards of professionalism of Pakistan Army and contributions for conflict prevention in the region, especially efforts for bringing peace in Afghanistan.


Visit to Turkey
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa, on a day long official visit to the Republic of Turkey called on His Excellency General Hulusi Akar (Retired), Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Turkey on June 23, 2021. His Excellency General Yasar Guler, Commander Turkish General Staff and His Excellency General Umit Dundar, Commander of the Turkish Land Forces were also present.



During the meeting, matters of mutual interests, regional security situation including recent developments in the Afghan Peace Process and bilateral defence and security cooperation in various fields were discussed. COAS acknowledged the Turkish engagements with Pakistan, especially the ongoing efforts for continuing the positivity for peace in the region. He also reiterated that Turkey is one of the key Muslim countries in the region and that enhanced Pakistan-Turkey cooperation will have a positive impact on regional peace and stability.



The dignitaries appreciated Pakistan's positive role for regional peace and stability, especially the Afghan Peace Process and pledged to continue working for better relations between the two brotherly countries. Earlier on arrival, COAS was presented a Guard of Honour by a smartly turned out military contingent.
