Chief of the Naval Staff Visits China

During his visit to China, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi called on Minister of National Defence, attended International Fleet Review and high-level symposium, interacted with heads of foreign navies, and visited ship construction yards to view the progress on PN platforms projects.

During the meeting with Minister of National Defence and State Councilor, General Wei Fenghe, matters related to maritime security and bilateral cooperation were discussed. CNS praised the time-tested close relationship between the people and the Armed Forces of the two countries based on mutual respect and trust. The CNS also thanked the Minister for whole-hearted participation of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy with ships, special forces and marine teams in the multinational naval exercise AMAN-19 which was hosted by Pakistan Navy in Karachi. The Defence Minister highly appreciated successful conduct of Exercise AMAN-19 and termed Pakistan as China’s all-weather strategic partner. On CPEC, which is a vital part of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), both sides expressed their full confidence and termed it as a project aimed at prosperity and economic empowerment of people of the region and beyond. The dignitaries also agreed on further enhancing the bilateral cooperation in the domains of military collaboration.

During the visit, CNS also attended the International Fleet Review held as a part of 70th anniversary celebrations of founding of the PLA (Navy). The multinational naval event, included high-level symposium, military band performances, cultural and sports exchanges. The symposium comprised international panel discussions on topics related to maritime domains. The CNS also addressed the audience during the symposium on the topic of ‘World Order Past and Present: Reflections at Sea and Role of Navies’ and interacted with different heads of foreign navies including Djibouti, Iran, Japan, Morocco and Poland. During the meetings with the dignitaries, matters of professional interest and naval collaboration came under discussion.
The CNS highlighted Pakistan’s commitment in the fight against terrorism including PN’s initiative of Regional Maritime Security Patrols (RMSP) in support of maritime security in the region. Commander PLA (Navy), Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong also hosted a reception in honour of the CNS where both the dignitaries discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation.
Later, CNS visited Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard (HZS) in Shanghai and Shuangliu Construction Base in Wuhan, and met heads of shipbuilding industry in China. 
During his visit to the two locations, CNS was given detailed briefings on the facilities and construction activities going on at the construction yards. He also visited various sections of the HZS and Shuangliu Construction Base where he was briefed by the mission commanders and heads of respective construction yards about the progress on PN projects underway. 

The Naval Chief also had calls on with various heads of shipbuilding industry including Chairman China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), and China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company (CSOC). During the meetings, matters pertaining to ongoing projects were discussed and avenues for further collaboration were also explored. CNS lauded the professionalism and commendable work being done by these organizations.
This visit will greatly augment the bilateral cooperation between both the countries in general and navies in particular.
