What are Essential Oils? 
For centuries, people from all parts of the world have been using essential oils for medicinal and health purposes. Essential oils, also known as volatile oils, are highly concentrated substances extracted from flowers, leaves, roots, resins and peels of plants. They are extracted using steam or distillation and contain the essence or aroma of the plant from which they are extracted. These therapeutic hydrophobic liquids contain volatile chemical compounds from plants used in aromatherapy, which is the treatment through aromatic compounds. Aromatherapy is safe, cost effective and has detoxifying, antibacterial, anti-depressant, anti-viral and calming properties. It is used to treat several diseases such as depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, urine associated complications, etc. It is a natural approach to heal a person's mind, body and soul. 
With increasing healthcare bills and medicinal side effects, adding essential oils to your lifestyle can be very effective. There are various types of essential oils used to cure different health problems such as balancing hormones, boosting immunity and fighting infections, supporting digestion, boosting energy levels, improving brain functions and treating vertigo.
There are many different essential oils, each having its own unique qualities and benefits.
Lavender Essential Oil
It is known to be the most calming essential oil and has a number of benefits. Lavender oil relieves anxiety and lowers inflammation. In ancient Rome, it was used for its healing and antiseptic properties. It helps clothes smell good, which also has a soothing effect on a person’s mind. It is a potent reliever of vertigo and calms down excessively excited nerves. According to studies, people who use lavender essential oil experienced decrease in their anxiety and depression. It also works to kill bacteria, and helps prevent and heal acne. The oil’s pain relieving and numbing properties help soothe inflammation as well.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary oil, though best known as a food seasoning, is one of the most popular aromatic and medicinal plants worldwide and has been used for years to cure migraine. It helps combat dizziness, tiredness, depression, anxiety and stress. In addition to this, it is also used in treating vertigo. Rosemary oil also helps fight certain types of hair loss, including male pattern baldness and patchy hair loss.
Chamomile Essential Oil
Chamomile oil is used therapeutically all over the world. The use of chamomile has been described in medical texts from ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome and is popular in cosmetics as well as for treating multiple ailments. It is gentle and is useful for children, usually those with teething pain problems as it helps alleviate the pain. In addition to this, it is anti-inflammatory and reduces insomnia, headaches and anxiety. A study conducted in 2018, found that patients who had chamomile oil applied to their abdomen got their appetite back quickly and also passed gas sooner than patients who did not use chamomile oil.
Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense oil has been used and traded for thousands of years due to its health benefits and effective healing properties. This oil comes from the bark of Boswellia and Cammiphora trees. It is also called ‘heal-all’ oil as it is used to treat a variety of health related problems. It is effective for indigestion, coughs, cold and hemorrhoids. It maintains balance of the body by balancing vestibular system of the ear and prevents middle ear infections. 
Ginger Essential Oil
Ginger essential oil facilitates the elimination of toxins from the body. It helps prevent dizziness by improving blood flow to the brain. It is known for enhancing appetite, boosting digestion and easing the discomforts of bowel and stomach. Ginger oil is also potent in clearing respiratory tract and reducing inflammation. It also prevents vertigo.
Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot oil comes from the peel of the fruit of the Bergamot tree. It is used in perfumes and has a citrusy spicy aroma. This miraculous oil is used for alleviating skin issues and respiratory problems. Stress relief and anti-septic properties are also among some of its benefits. 
Basil Essential Oil
Basil essential oil is extracted from Ocimum basilicum plant. It contains a number of compounds used to boost health. These chemical compounds include linalool, a substance used to reduce stress. Inhaling such essential oils sends signals to the limbic system of the brain and helps control emotions. It also has an effect on a number of biological factors such as blood pressure, stress level, breathing, heart rate and immune function. 
How to Use Essential Oils? 
Essential oils can be used in a number of ways;
•    They are used in inhalers or mixed in a hot water     tub for inhaling.
•   Such potent and concentrated oils should be handled with caution. Direct application on the skin can cause irritation. Therefore, they must be mixed or diluted with some carrier oil such as almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil, etc., for topical application. Mix a few drops of the essential oil with some carrier oil and apply to forehead, temple and nape regions.
•    You can also apply essential oils on pillow covers.
•    Do not ingest any essential oil as it can cause stomach problems.
•    Consult a doctor before using essential oils to treat a medical condition. HH
